No, a registered QUIP must exist before registering a Prefix.
The QUIP Registration process is simple and quick, and D2the registration process takes only a few minutes to complete. Once, the user has conducted a search to determine if the Prefix is available.
Only a registrant associated with the company or brand name in question should request a QUIP. If you have any questions, please review the terms of service.
The LEI, also known Legal Entity Identifier, is used by issuers of securities and other financial products. You can check with https://www.gmeiutility.org/ to determine if your company has one or more LEI registrations. QUIP Prefixes use LEI as a validation key, because it is prolific in spite of its significant limitations. There are currently more than 200,000 LEI’s, and more are being registered every day.
The resolution server IP address or DNS is the physical location, or a proxy, for your company’s technical specifications. If you require an immediate, no-cost solution, feel free use http://www.eccma.org/eTSR. This is the default address where ECCMA members and other users can store and retrieve technical specifications about products and parts. There are currently more than 1 million entries in the repository.
Many companies maintain more than one Legal Entity (LE), because they exist across countries or political boundaries, or because they have different lines of business. The most important LE is the parent company, usually located at the Headquarters. At some point, your company, its foreign subsidiaries, partnerships and joint ventures (if applicable) with unique products may choose to register, or you may advise them to do so. The data fields with an asterisk (*) are required to register a QUIP. The other data fields are not required, but helpful to have available when registering your QUIP.
A QUIP sub.Prefix is a public name that Prefix owners can use to differentiate between product, brand, geographic or organizational units within a large company.
